Nepal's Four Seasons
🍂 Autumn (Oct–Nov) — Peak Season
The absolute best time to visit Nepal. Post-monsoon skies are crystal clear, temperatures are perfect (10–20°C at altitude), and mountain views are at their sharpest. The busiest and most expensive time — book everything well in advance. Dashain and Tihar festivals fall in Oct–Nov.
🌸 Spring (Mar–May) — Second Best
Warm, clear skies, and rhododendron forests ablaze in red and pink make spring spectacular for trekking. Slightly warmer and hazier than autumn as pre-monsoon clouds build. March is ideal — cooler and clearer. May brings dust haze to lower altitudes. Holi festival in March.
🌧️ Monsoon (Jun–Sep) — Challenging
Heavy rainfall (80% of Nepal's annual precipitation falls Jun–Sep), leeches on trails, and cloud-covered mountains make this difficult for trekking. However: lush green landscapes are stunning, waterfalls are at their peak, and prices are 30–50% lower. Upper Mustang is rain-shadow — a viable destination.
❄️ Winter (Dec–Feb) — Cold & Quiet
Cold temperatures in the mountains (sub-zero above 3,000 m) but clear, sunny skies and excellent mountain views. High-altitude treks are very cold and some passes may be snowed in. Ideal for Chitwan wildlife safaris and lower-altitude cultural tours. Best prices and fewest crowds.

Nepal's Major Festivals — Plan Around These
Dashain (Oct)
Nepal's biggest festival — 15 days celebrating the victory of good over evil. Kite flying, family gatherings, and elaborate rituals throughout the country. Businesses close; advance accommodation booking essential.
Tihar / Diwali (Oct–Nov)
The Festival of Lights — five days of oil lamps, rangoli, and worship of crows, dogs, cows, and brothers. Kathmandu transforms into a sea of twinkling lights. Magical to witness.
Holi (Mar)
The Festival of Colours — a joyful celebration where everyone throws coloured powder and water. Kathmandu's Basantapur Square is the epicentre. Wear old clothes you don't mind staining!
